Monitor defibrillators

Monitor defibrillators are used to monitor and detect abnormal heart rhythms and to deliver an electric shock to the patient for resuscitation when necessary. The medical device consists of two main parts: the defibrillator and the monitor. The defibrillator sends an electric shock to the heart to restore a normal rhythm, while the monitor records the activity of the heart and sends the data to health professionals. More specifically, the monitor records abnormal heartbeats, arrhythmias, and ventricular fibrillation (V-Fib).

When a person goes into cardiac arrest, their brain is deprived of oxygen. In the majority of cases, there is no hope of recovery unless the heart is treated with an electroshock to restart the heart's electrical system. The defibrillator monitor is used to detect ventricular fibrillation. The monitor sends an alarm when V-Fib is detected so that the patient's heart is shocked by the defibrillator.

Monitor defibrillators, are differentiated from automatic external AED defibrillators, by the fact that they are used exclusively by qualified medical personnel, and provide the possibility of synchronized & asynchronous manual defibrillation. At the same time they monitor, record & display the patient's vital signs such as electrocardiogram, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, EtCO2, etc. providing a comprehensive clinical picture of the patient to the rescuer. Optionally, they can also accept external pacing modules, internal defibrillation & automatic defibrillation with self-adhesive electrodes.

Monitor defibrillators are designed for use by experienced personnel only. They are commonly used in hospitals, clinics, and emergency medical care settings to treat patients undergoing cardiac arrest. Their use is particularly simple, as the device is connected to the patient through electrodes placed in the chest. The electrodes detect the electrical activity of the heart and send this information to the monitor. The monitor displays the patient's heart rate, rhythm, and other vital signs. If the monitor detects an irregular rhythm, the defibrillator can deliver an electric shock to restore the normal rhythm.
