Gloves

Gloves are key to the healthcare industry, providing protection for both patients and healthcare professionals. They are made from various materials such as latex, nitrile, vinyl, and polyethylene each with their own unique properties and benefits. Disposable examination gloves are used for surgical procedures for everyday examinations or for everyday use in professional settings.

Latex gloves are the most common type of medical gloves and have many advantages such as excellent thinness and flexibility that make them ideal for use during surgical procedures. Similarly, nitrile is a material that offers durability and chemical resistance, while vinyl gloves are the most economical and provide basic protection for everyday examinations. Finally, polyethylene gloves are one of the most popular glove options in food production areas, factories, and food service areas.

To ensure the safe and effective use of disposable gloves, there are standards and frameworks that must be adhered to. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for regulating the production and sale of medical gloves. Similar standards are also observed in the European Union, where they are divided into 3 categories according to risk levels.

  • Category I: Gloves of simple design with minimal risks, such as household cleaning gloves.
  • Category II: Gloves for intermediate risk, i.e. general-purpose gloves according to EN 388.
  • Category III: Gloves of complex design for maximum risk, for example, gloves for protection against biochemical hazards.

The glove standards generally defined are EN 420, EN 388, EN 374:2003, AKL, EN 374, EN 407:2004, EN 407:2004, EN 511:2006, EN 659:2003, EN 659:2003, EN 60903:2003, EN 12477:2001, EN 1082-1, EN 10819.
