Buchanan tracheostomy protector is a three layer system with a hyrdrolox foam core and a breathable soft cotton outer mesh. It is designed specifically for airway protection, to filter fine particles and allow moisture transfer.

Buchanan tracheostomy protector is made of plastic foam covered with knitted honeycomb fabric, bound at the edges with tape, which extends for tying around the neck.
