Syringes

Disposable syringes are made to be used in a wide range of industries, including healthcare, personal care, cosmetics, etc. Needle-free syringes are available in a variety of types, each with unique characteristics that make it suitable for each use. They are used for injecting drugs into the body, for intravenous therapy in the bloodstream, for measuring and taking fluids, for administering insulin, or for feeding infants and adults. Each syringe has a graduated tube in either ml or cc. It is noted that 1 cc is equivalent to 1 ml.

The most widely used syringes are general-purpose syringes which are used in healthcare. They are available in various sizes ranging from 1ml to 100ml and are disposable. Then there are insulin syringes that are designed to deliver insulin. They are usually smaller than standard syringes and are usually calibrated in units rather than ml. The feeding syringes are designed without needles and are suitable for application to feeding catheters.

Depending on their tip, syringes are divided into additional categories. In more detail, there are syringes with a Luer Lock tip, that is, the special tip on the tip can "twist" and lock in place. In this way, it is ensured that there will be no accidental removal of the needle during the administration of the medicine. In addition, there are syringes with a Slip tip (Luer Slip syringes) that are used for diabetics or in post-operative situations. Syringes with a catheter tip have a conical tip and are used for washing, cleaning catheters, tubes, etc. but also for cleaning wounds.

Syringes are classified as medical waste and therefore must follow specific standards of use. Specifically:

  • Syringes are single-use: Do not reuse syringes. To be used only once and then discarded as reuse may lead to infection or other complications
  • Store them in a safe place: Syringes should be kept in a safe place, away from children and pets
  • Do not throw them in the trash: Syringes should be placed after use in a special sharps disposal container. Do not dispose of them in regular trash as they are considered medical waste.
