CPM

Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) is a technique used by physiotherapists to relieve pain and promote healing in injured or affected joints. CPM physiotherapy involves a CPM device that passively moves the joint within a range predetermined by the physical therapist, without involving the patient's musculature. They are mainly used after surgical procedures where natural joint movement is not allowed or causes pain to the patient.

With CPM movements are performed accurately and safely in both the upper and lower limbs. The physiotherapist can program the range of motion, time, and repetitions in order to prevent post-operative or chronic stiffness.

CPM therapy maintains or restores the normal range of a joint and reduces its stiffness, improves the mobility of the periarticular elements such as the bursa, tendon, and ligaments, and, finally, enhances good blood and lymph circulation. The use of CPM machines is indicated for articulations, follicular cuts, osteotomies, ligament damage, tendon damage repair, fractures, etc.
